Ľudmila Benkovičová, the President of the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, in connection with the next-year Population and Housing Census, has decided to establish a Census Central Commission. It shall be an advisory body to the President of the Statistical Office of the SR and its task will be to carry out methodological regulation, coordination and supervision of the activities of municipal census commissions, which carry out tasks relating to the preparation, conducting and the execution of this most extensive statistical survey. The importance of censuses is supported by the Regulation (EC) No. 763/2008 of the European Parliament which stipulates to all its Member States to hold censuses at a time, in order to increase the international data comparability.
In the Slovak Republic, the Population and Housing Census will be conducted as of 21 May 2011. The Point in Time Relevant to the Census shall be midnight between Friday, the 20th of May 2011, and Saturday, the 21st of May 2011. Electronic counting will be made available through our website scitanie2011.sk for the first time in history. The Statistical Office of the SR has been intensively working on making the website accessible. The required data on population and housing cannot be obtained by any other way that is why it is considered to be the event of the decade.
The Census will be managed by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, in cooperation with applicable central government authorities, district offices, municipalities and higher territorial units. This particular representatives of the organisations and the institutions concerned delegate their representatives for members of Census Central Committees. Negotiations have been focused on questions concerning the preparation, conducting, execution and processing the results of the 2011 Population and Housing Census. Conclusions of the commission in the form of opinions and expert proposals will have an advisory character.
