Census Process in figures

• During the 2011 Population and Housing Census, 8 372 264 Census Sheets were collected all together of which 5 322 274 were  Resident Sheets, 1 069 629 House Sheets and 1 980 361 Apartment Sheets. Of the total number of the completed Census Sheets 7 808 570 were returned in paper form and 563 694 in electronic form. The delivery of electronically completed forms achieved a share of 6,73 % of the total forms delivered.

• In the Slovak Republic more women than men participated in the historically first electronic counting. The typical electronically counted resident of the Slovak Republic is a single working woman aged between 31 and 40 with a completed upper  secondary education.

In towns, the largest number of Census Sheets in absolute figures came from the residents of Bratislava, more specifically the urban part Petržalka. In municipalities, the largest number of A. Resident Sheets were completed in Ivanka pri Dunaji, in the district Senec.

• During the Census term – between 13 May 2011 and 6 June 2011, all together 12 654 calls have been handled by the Statistical Office of the SR, of which 6 380 calls were answered by the call centre. The total length of call centre calls was 267 hours 59 minutes and 27 seconds with the average call duration of 2 minutes and 20 seconds. There was almost an equal number of men and women callers. The call centre handled the highest number of calls (597) on Monday, 23 May 2011 and the second highest number (502) on Monday, 6 June 2011, which was the very last day of the census.

• During the Census Term – between 13. 5. 2011 and 6. 6. 2011- the Central Statistical Office received and handled 2 979 e-mail questions about the census. Another 2 059 emails have been handled by regional offices of the Statistical office of the SR in regional towns which all together make up 5 038 emails.

5 most frequently asked questions in telephone and e-mail communication

In telephone communication, the Statistical Office of the SR had to answer questions like: when will Census Takers visit me, how can I contact him/her, or when he/she will come to find me at home. The second most numerous group of callers inquired about how to get counted online, where to get the user´s login name and how will it function. A slightly smaller number of callers asked to whom and how the Census Sheets are collected (the Census Taker promised to collect the forms but failed to come, I was not at home when the forms were collected etc.). Questions were also about topics related to I live in Slovakia but not in the place of permanent residence, how will I get identifiers and forms, how will I be counted, or is it possible for me to get counted in the place of usual residence. The fifth most often asked telephone question was how to correctly fill out some questions on the A. Resident Sheet.

In e-mail communication, the Statistical Office received the largest number of questions related to e-counting. The second most numerous group of questions were concerning the Census Taker´s conduct of activity, these were followed by questions on guidelines for the completion of Census Sheets and questions how to contact Census Takers.  Many questions were also asked by those residents who had a permanent address in the Slovak Republic but they have been living abroad, either continuously or only at the time of the census.

As a result, during the census term, residents were mostly interested in questions regarding the Census Takers´ conduct of activity or electronic counting.
